Hi, I’m Hayley, a Brisbane (Meanjin)-based designer. I enjoy all things branding and campaign development, recognising the power of creative design in shaping perceptions and driving engagement.
I am in my final year at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), studying a dual bachelor of Visual Communication Design and Public Relations.
Perspectex
Typographic + Zine Design
Perspectex is a typeface that I crafted using Illustrator and FontLab, designed to embody the theme of symbiosis. This stylised font delves into the relationship between our cognitive thinking and imagination—exploring the dynamic interplay between how we view things versus our interpretation.
Drawing inspiration from Herb Lubalin’s iconic Avant Garde and the influential Bauhaus movement, Perspectex marries architectural simplicity with modern creativity.
Displayed in a zine, this project showcases Perspectex and my exploration of its concept and thematic foundations.
In creating Perspectex, I drew inspiration from the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation and Herb Lubalin's Avant Garde magazine. The original Bauhaus magazine's sophisticated, monochromatic layouts and effective use of contrast and white space influenced my desire to create a playful yet functional look. Similarly, Avant Garde's playful and eye-catching use of text inspired my approach to uniquely integrating typography.
ReThread
Zine, App + Branding
ReThread is a forward-thinking sewing magazine brand that empowers young women to embrace sustainability through creative reuse of fashion and fabrics.
What sets ReThread apart is its innovative approach to merging traditional print media with the future of interactive design. By incorporating AR-enhanced content, the magazine bridges the gap between the tactile experience of print and the immersive world of digital technology.
ReThread publishes a monthly 12-page zine that features sewing patterns crafted from reused clothes and fabrics, along with fabric recommendations, spotlights on featured resellers, and insights into the latest trends in sustainable fashion.
Complementing the zine is the ReThread app, which allows users to scan QR codes for augmented reality (AR) versions of the sewing patterns. Users can also easily retrieve any previous designs stored within the app.

YOKOCHO
Logo + Branding Design
I created a logo and promotional posters for Yokocho, a fictional Japanese restaurant. The logo captures the vibrant essence of Tokyo's nightlife with a playful yet mature design, incorporating primary colours and universal symbols.
To complement the logo, I designed a series of posters using a mix of photography and illustrations, created in Photoshop and Illustrator. The posters are designed to be simple yet impactful, using bold colours and minimalist layouts to attract the target audience.
The combination of humorous and surreal elements in the imagery helps convey the unique dining experience Yokocho offers, making it a versatile and recognisable brand.

Design For Change
Sustainability in Healthcare
I completed Design for Change: Sustainability in Healthcare study tour in Malaysia and Singapore with Queensland University of Technology (QUT). I had the opportunity to collaborate with talented and diverse professionals and students from various cultures, degrees, and institutions.
My Experience
the tour began at Taylor’s University in Malaysia, where I spent the first-week gaining insights from numerous inspiring industry professionals. Following that, I travelled to Singapore to kick off our design sprint at Nanyang Polytechnic.
My team consisting of myself and;
Darcy Grant, Visual and Interactive design - QUT
Hannah Batchelor, Visual Communication design - UTS
Humza Rathore, MBBS - MBRU
Willy Lin, Industrial design - TTU
Reis Toh, Nursing - NYP
Chai Yan Ning, Interactive Spatial design- TU;
created MediDrop, an innovative solution for transporting medication to the elderly.
Our Solution
Improve the sustainability of delivering medication to the elderly. We will develop a smart oil-box system that will be delivered to existing parcel lockers, accompanied by an app with a personalised Al avatar explaining the proper usage of medications. The system will be sustainable by collecting and reusing the pill-boxes to reduce waste and harmful emissions.
Our Solution
Our Problem
How can we enhance the accessibility of medication for caregivers and the elderly by improving their understanding of how to correctly use these medications as well as their purpose, through delivery services that cater specifically to their needs while reducing harmful emissions?
‘Design for Change: Sustainability in Healthcare’ program was honoured with the 2024 Triple E Awards, winning the ‘People’s Choice Award’ and earning Runner Up in the ‘Impactful Collaboration of the Year’ category.
